(c)	 The longest national highway in India is NH-44. It starts from Srinagar
         and ends in Kanyakumari. Total distance covered by it is 3,745 km.

	 (d)	Road accidents, greater number of traffics and pollution created by
          traffics are some perils of the road transport.

	 (e)	 The main benefit of the road transport is that it connects almost the
          entire country.

	 (f) 	National highways : National highways connect the whole country
          through its length and breadth. All important cities of the country
          are connected by national highways.

		State highways : State highways are the link roads to the national
          highways. They connect the important places in the states with the
          national highways.

	 (g)	Railway which connects cities on the Atlantic coast to cities on the
          Pacific coast is known as Trans-continental Railway.

	 (h)	San Tomas Expressway, Pan American Highway, Allen Expressway
          and Trans-Canadian Highway are four world famous highways or
          expressways.

	 (i) 	North Atlantic Route is the busiest sea route of the world.
	 (j) 	In 1930, the Wright Brothers developed an aeroplane called ‘flyer’

          and flew it in the air. It was the first successful aeroplane.
		 It flew in the air for 12 seconds covering a distance of 230 metres

          at a height of 3 metres.
6. Long answer questions :
	 (a)	 The early men moved from one place to another on their feet. Slowly,

         they learnt to tame and domesticate animals. The domestication
         of animals introduced a new way to lay the burden of transport
         on animals which were superior to people in their speed and also
         capable of carrying greater load.
		 Then wheel was invented. It was a milestone in the history of
          transportation. The invention of wheel opened a new phase in the
          development of new means of transport. Modern means of transport
          are based on wheels.
	 (b)	Following are the main advantages of the air transport :
		 (i)	 Air transport is the fastest means of transport.
		 (ii) 	 It connects the world.
		 (iii)	 It is very helpful in the times of war.
		 (iv) 	It is also helpful during natural and man-made disasters.
		 (v) 	It covers long distances in less time.
	 (c)	 Water transport does not need any road and path to be built. They
          only need ports for loading and unloading men and material. So,
          water transport is cheaper than other means of transport.
	 (d)	Railways in India are the most popular means of transport. They are
          very convenient to travel to far-off places and very useful for carrying
          heavy goods over long distances.
