4. Life cycle of a butterfly :
(i) A butterfly lays hundreds of eggs at a time.
(ii) The eggs hatch into young
ones. They are called
caterpillars.
(iii) A f t e r f e w d a y s , t h e Adult butterfly
caterpillar builds a cocoon
around itself to form pupa.
During this period, it sheds
its skin several times. This Pupa Eggs
is called moulting.
(iv) After a few days, adult
butterfly comes out from Caterpillar
the cocoon.
5. Life cycle of a frog : Life cycle of a butterfly
(i) A female frog lays a cluster
of eggs in a safe place in water. The cluster of eggs is called spawn.
(ii) The baby frogs come out
of the eggs in about three
weeks. They are called
tadpole. They look like tiny
fish and breathe through Adult frog
gills.
(iii)Later, the tadpoles lose their Cluster of
tails and develop legs. eggs
(iv)After a specific period of
time, they become adult

6. In mammals, babies are formed Life cycle of a frog
inside the body of the mother.
They stay there for several weeks and then are born. At the time of
the birth, the babies are weak and helpless. So, mothers care for their
babies. They feed their babies with their own milk. They clean them,
teach them to find food and to live on their own. They protect them till
they learn to look after themselves. For example; a mother kangaroo
keeps its baby in its pouch and it develops there.
C. 1. The eggs of fish and frogs do not have a hard protective cell like the
eggs of birds or reptiles. So, they have to lay their eggs in water and
they cannot reproduce in the absence of water.
2. Birds sit on their eggs for some time to provide them warmth.

4. Since tadpoles breathe through gills, they cannot live on land. For
living on land, an animal needs lungs.
